You'll find strong public schools in the city and its surrounding communities. Excellence in education has always been important to Galesburg.

Knox College, a four-year liberal arts college is considered a "best value" among liberal arts colleges. Knox has the highest academic reputation ranking among other liberal arts colleges in Illinois. In addition, Knox is one of the most internationally diverse colleges in the nation. With 10% of students coming from outside the U.S., Knox was ranked eighth in the nation for international diversity in 2002.

Carl Sandburg College, the regional community college based in Galesburg, offers a broad array of college transfer and vocational-technical programs. The Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME) and the Education Technology Center (ETC) are both located in Galesburg. Other private and public universities within an hour's drive provide master's degrees and other post-graduate study opportunities.

Galesburg Community Unit School District 205, provides Galesburg youth with the superior small-town education so valuable today. Small class sizes allow your child to receive individual attention from quality teachers. The pupil:teacher ratio at the elementary schools is 15:1 and 16:1 at secondary schools. This is far less than the state average, offering your child more individualized attention. District 205 teachers are among the best, too, with the average teaching experience of District 205 teachers above the state average.
District 205ís academic excellence is demonstrated by above average test scores on the ACT and IGAP/ISAT. District 205 is comprised of:

Galesburg Public Schools Foundation, is a chartered, not-for-profit foundation with a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. The purpose of the Foundation is to raise funds to enhance the educational, interscholastic and extracurricular opportunities for students in District 205, and to strengthen the relationship between the public schools and the community.

Costa Catholic School, with a history dating back to 1879, is an intellectual and cultural landmark in the Galesburg area. The 2005-2006 school year will celebrate the 126th year of Fr. Costa's foundation in Galesburg. Costa is conveniently located near the I-74 corridors.
Costa Catholic School offer three distinct but complementary levels of education: Early Childhood (preschool), Primary School (kindergarten - grade 3), and Middle School (grades 5-8). Enrollment for the 2005-06 year is expected to reach 372 students. Costa's commitment to maintaining limited class size provides students with individualized instruction and attention. Costa is primarily known for the integration of Christian values with outstanding academic curriculum as well as Costa's athletic program which continues to grow, offering programs in soccer, basketball, volleyball, track, golf and other lifestyle sports.

Galesburg Christian School, located at 1881 E. Fremont Street in Galesburg, IL was founded in 1996. GCS is a parent-run, non-denominational Christian school whose purpose is to train students spiritually, academically and socially in an environment of educational excellence that will preserve and promote the standards and the faith taught in a Christ-centered home.
Newly expanded, GCS Early Learning provides half-day classes for 3 years old, as well as full day K3-4 and K-5. Classes through 9th grade offer Christ-centered education in a secure, loving environment with teachers who consider this not a job, but a ministry. Class sizes are less than 15 students and parent participation is encouraged within GCS. The phonics based reading program, enrichment classes, and weekly chapel are all part of providing a great foundation for the studentsí future growth.
